Just heard from Ollabelle's drummer (Tony Leone) that tonight's scheduled gig @ Newmarket, NH's Stone Church has been cancelled. This comes as no surprise as the Stone Church was recently saved from foreclosure a couple of wkds ago & is reorganizing. Bummer.
Boston fans can catch Ollabelle w/ Mavis Staples & Chris Smither tomorrow night in Cambridge, MA.

John Simon involved w/ a good cause.
John Simon will be joining his jazz trio tonight as he does every Thurs @ Ellenville, NY's Aroma Thyme Bistro. But tonight, 10% of the Bistro's proceeds will go to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. What a great way to benefit a great cause by enjoying wonderful food & music. We ate there & caught a John Simon performance in late Aug.

Emmylou Harris' new album.
Martha Scanlan's album.
Just picked up Martha's '07 album The West Was Burning that was recorded @ Levon Helm's studio / barn & in Louisiana. We were fortunate enough to see her perform a couple of Saturday's ago when she filled in for Amy Helm w/ Ollabelle @ the 137th Tunbridge (VT) World's Fair (in 2nd pic wearing dark tanktop). She has a beautiful voice fit for the similar music genre as Levon & Ollabelle. Levon, Amy & Glenn Patscha all participated in the recording of her album.

The Band website's Guest Book return.
The Band website's webmaster, Jan Hoiberg (Norway), has re-instated his Guest Book after the demise of the previous version of the Guest Book operated by Peter Viney (England). Spammers had taken over Viney's Guest Book & Hoiberg's past Guest Book was discontinued due to posting abuse. Please click on the link below & provide your "positive" The Band-related input.

Grateful Dead @ the Boston Garden in '93.
We wish this was our backstage pass. The only time we went to the Boston Garden was to catch the Dead on a rainy afternoon. Never once saw a Celtics or Bruins game (although have since the Fleet Ctr was built), but very fortunate to catch the Dead before Jerry Garcia's passing. A very cool experience.

Bruce Hornsby & Jim Weider also join Levon Helm last night.
Two of our fav musicians, Bruce Hornsby & Jim Weider, also joined Levon Helm during his Midnight Ramble last night. We caught Hornsby w/ Bela Fleck for a great show a few summers ago in Gilford, NH. We're still in need of catching Weider live, although we have patronized Maria's Bizare, his wife's great Woodstock, NY bakery.

Louie Bellson & Clark Terry - two jazz greats.
In the late '80s, we attended a great jazz seminar @ Durham, NH's Univ. of NH, headlined by jazz legends Louie Bellson (drummer) & Clark Terry (trumpet). We played alto sax & participated in our own HS band & jazz band, which led to our attending this seminar. What a wonderful time. We met the two greats, acquired their autographs & witnessed an amazing seminar-ending performance by the two. Bellson put on a crazy display of varying beats & Terry played two trumpets @ the same time.
Jack de Johnette & David Bromberg join Levon Helm last night.
Buddy Harman, 80, great session drummer passes.
Earl Palmer, pioneering drummer, has passed @ 84.
Earl Palmer (84) died this past Fri after a lengthy illness. He was a pioneering drummer from New Orleans & electred to the Rock & Roll HOF in '00. He was recorded on Little Richards' Tutti Frutti & the Righteous Bros' You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin. He was also a backbeat for Fats Domino, Neil Young & Frank Sinatra.
